April Lockhart

April Lockhart (born July 4, 1995) started her musical journey in the 7th grade in which she began guitar and piano lessons. In the seventh grade, April began taking piano and guitar lessons. It sparked her interest to write songs. The singer spent much of her time when she was 14 writing songs and practicing music. She began writing with her dad at home in NY and LA soon after. April featured other topics in her hit song, Take my Hand. These topics were meant for the friends of hers who struggled issues like peer pressure, and disabilities, or even teenage suicidal thinking. Lockhart is a lifestyle and beauty influencer with a growing number of followers. She collaborates with the renowned brand Ilia in partnership, and is also a lifestyle expert. The truth is that she was born with no left hand and that makes her unique. However, this isn't the only characteristic of her. Lockhart's profile on Twitter doesn't shy away from her status as disabled however, it doesn't concentrate on the fact that she is disabled. What message does it convey? It's crucial to understand that we all have many faces, our identities vary and we are much more than our bodies. Lockhart speaks through video from Nashville. "I don't wish for it to dictate my personal life. I do not want to be merely known as a disability expert. And it doesn't affect my daily life. I conduct every day as normal and have found my own method of adjusting the things. Because it's my identity and something worthy of talking about. Lockhart has been a great example to other women regarding acceptance of oneself. She still admits having gone through a few phases regarding her appearance, feeling uncomfortable in certain situations wearing outfits that showcased the arms of her. The woman now puts on whatever clothes she likes and uploads photos on Facebook in awe. The self-love she talks about is a process. I'm not sure when you'll reach the final stage. The same is true for everybody, no matter what their level of insecurity. I believe that it's really important to surround yourself with those who can identify and feel your heart.
